Welcome to Tutorials in Microsoft Publisher

Microsoft Publisher is a very versatile program that allows students to create cards, business cards, brochures, calendars, catalogues and more. I have used this program to have children make calendars and children's books. Students were expected to pick a theme and be consistent when creating calendars. Some of the children would put famous quotes on their calendar, which could be a great compliment for a literacy unit. Students also made books on animals and inventions. The next unit will include a book about bugs. Design is a major piece of the book project.

Calendar This is a fun and great activity for students to learn about design and some of the basics in Microsoft Publisher. Students are expected to create calendars that are visually attractive that have a consistent theme. This activity could require students to place quotes from famous people, include monthly facts, etc. If it is set up in a history class, students can put facts about events that occured on certain days of the year. Holidays around the world could also be posted.

Children's Books This lesson gives detailed steps on how to create children's books in Microsoft Publisher. Content and design are the main criteria in the evaluation of the final project. Students get the opportunity to get information from books and the Internet. This is a great opportunity to model good research techniques with students. Otherwise, you should have the sites already selected for research. I provide sites for students so they can focus on the content and not determining if a site is legitimate or not.
