About the computer teacher

Welcome 6th, 7th and 8th graders. You can view my portfolio. I love teaching at Mountain Ridge Middle School. I thoroughly enjoy teaching computer classes to such motivated and delightful students. I look forward to spending time teaching my students as much as possible about computers. I'd like to take most of this time to introduce myself. My first job in education involved teaching 7th grade social studies in Reno, Nevada. After substitute teaching and having my own classroom, I decided to take an alternative career path. I came to the conclusion that my interests were in technology and education. Consequently, I received another degree in Educational Software Design from the Empire State College in New York. I moved to New York City and pursued a certificate in Interactive Media. I was able to program several children's games after receiving my certificate. You can play some of my games. With my educational background and teaching experiences I was able to get a rewarding job with Media Workshop as a staff developer. As a staff developer, I provided teachers and students with professional support in the use of technology to enhance curriculum. Some of the workshops have involved the use of Macromedia Dreamweaver to build websites, Adobe Photoshop to manipulate images and Microsoft PowerPoint to put on multimedia presentations. I made customized on-line workshops for teachers and students.

I worked with several teenagers on a project that involved building a web site about the neighborhoods of Queens, the Lower East Side and Harlem. I was also responsible for leading an after-school tech team at one of Media Workshop's partner high schools. They learned various aspects of web site development and maintenance during the production of their school website. After 9/11, I put together a site for students and teachers called September 11. Students used the site to gather information and images to put together presentations. Several students submitted writing, art and multimedia presentations.

I am going on my 5th year of teaching computer applications at Mountain Ridge. During that time, I have had two of my lessons published in the EdTech Magazine: Internet Hoaxes and Global Warming. I am anticipating another lesson to be published on Multi Media. As of September 2007, I will have my Master's in Technology in Education from Lesley University. I am a frequent presenter at the T.I.E. Conference in Copper Mountain. I have also trained District 20 staff members in various workshops.

Classroom Expectations
In addition to having a great time learning in my classroom, I expect my students to do the best they possibly can. I believe it is essential that all students follow the guidelines necessary to preserve the proper functionality of computer software and hardware. They should adhere to the ethics of technology use. I will do my part in making the class meaningful and interesting so that my students will be more willing to perform at a higher level. I anticipate that they will be focused on quality, depth and understanding. If they complete their work before the period ends, I expect them to either assist other students, work on extra credit materials, practice their typing skills or further enhance pending projects.
