Students will continue to improve their keyboarding skills using Type To Learn. They will learn how to use tools in various applications to complete aesthetically pleasing productions. Each grade level will focus on strengthening their file management, organizational and Internet research skills. Topics dealing with ethics will be emphasized, especially prior to building their websites. Much of their experience will be building websites, which will incorporate design, research, and advancing their skills and understanding of Adobe Photoshop. Sixth and seventh graders can create a site about a hypothetical creature that they will create or they can build a non-fiction site about the topic of their choice. Eighth graders will have the choice of making a business website or they can create a site about a country. They will create their own products using advanced skills in Adobe Photoshop. Many choose to create fake websites after doing a unit on Internet hoaxes. Creativity plays a major role in the majority of assignments in computer class. In addition to making well thought out websites, 8th graders will create various productions in Microsoft Publisher. They will make business cards, newsletters, calendars or a Children's book. They will make a simple database in Microsoft Access. Their final project will involve cartoon animations in PowerPoint. They will be expected to provide an informational commercial or two in their cartoon production.
