Argentina:
Photo taken in by Tara Cahill in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
It is a photo
of Catedral Nuestra Señora del Carmen.
It is one of
the most spectacular cathedrals in South America.
Argentina is the
5th largest country in South America. The Spanish
first arrived around 1516 and didn’t gain independence until
1905. Eighty percent of Argentina is of European descent.
Apparently the small native population died from European
diseases.
Argentina’s
industries are primarily textiles, food processing, motor
vehicles and consumer goods. Livestock is also a very important
part of their economy. They have a high literacy rate and low
infant mortality rates in their country.
Like most South
American countries, Spanish is the official language. In Buenos
Aires, their language has been greatly influenced by the Germans
and Scandinavians because of a recent influx of these groups
into the city.
If you visit
Argentina, be sure to respect their space. They don't appreciate
people touching them and when people stand too close. Avoid
pointing at someone with your index finger. It is considered
rude. If you are invited to dinner bring a small gift such as
flowers, candy or pastries. The people of Argentina are
considered to be very generous and hospitable. They are not shy
people.
