Paraguay: Photo taken near the Playa Levante Benidorm by Molly Large. This is a popular attraction for tourists because of its sheer beauty, pristine beaches and lovely climate year round.

Paraguay is a landlocked, agricultural country. It is slightly larger than California. It borders Brazil, Bolivia, Argentina and Uruguay. Paraguay battled against Argentina, Brazil and Bolivia between 1865-70. The war, known as the War of the Triple Alliance, claimed the lives of 90% of the adult male population of Paraguay. An additional 36,000 Paraguayan soldiers were killed in a war against Argentina in the 1930s.

Some of Paraguay's agricultural products include cotton, soybeans, sugarcane, corn, wheat, fruits, cassava, vegetables, eggs, milk, timber and beef. Most of the country's population live in the western part of the country where you can see rolling, fertile farming areas and grasslands. The eastern part of the country is mostly inaccessible because of the low-lying plateau that is covered with grassy meadows, spiny bushes, bogs, palms and small trees. The eastern part of the country also lacks roads and navigable rivers. Roughly 3% of the population lives in this area.

Like most other South American countries, it is courteous to bring a gift when invited to dinner. Bringing knives or scissors to the host should be avoided because such gifts represent the severing of a friendship. The host will take it as a compliment if you eat everything on your plate. Though they eat everything on their plate, they do have wonderful table manners.
