Update:
Photo taken by Christoper Jimenez, a professor from the
Universidade de São Paulo. This tree frog, known as the
árbol mezclados rana, which means
blended tree frog.
Apparently, there have only been a few
sightings since its discovery in 2008 by Martin Borrel, a French
herpetologist. He almost missed this well camouflaged amphibian
while exploring the Amazon forest in Brazil near the Columbian
border. He heard a strange noise and happened to look up when he
saw this rare animal blending in with the tree. It is extremely
difficult to capture this frog because it can leap at great
speeds and distances. Martin Borrel speculates it can leap a
distance of 15 feet in less than 2 seconds. Scientists theorize
this creature hasn't been discovered until recently because the
area is sparsely populated with human populations and there are
very few remaining. He is optimistic that they will be able to
locate this incredible creature before it becomes extinct.
