The following task will be followed in order to complete this webquest:

You will look at several e-mails and websites and determine if they are hoaxes or not by doing a thorough search on Google or a search engine of your choice. Prior to research, you will read an article to get a general overview of how common and serious some of the Internet hoaxes or scams are. Your primary activities will involve researching several possible hoaxes or scams. Efficient research skills will be critical in the completion of this assignment. You will take the most essential key words or phrases to find sites that discuss the issue at hand. You will look at two credible websites per problem in order to critically conclude if you are dealing with a hoax or not. For each problem, you will give the key word search used to find your answer, post the web address of the articles, and provide a summary of your findings. Once you have completed the tasks involved in this assignment, you will be more Internet savvy and less susceptible to scams. This assignment could actually save you money. Your final project will involve your own creative write up about a creature you create. You should then realize how easy it is to create a hoax. This behavior is not encouraged outside of the classroom because deceit is not a decent character trait and it could cause pain or harm to a gullible recipient.
